Topic: The Long Road to Social Justice: The Intersection of Perception,
Disability Policy and Change

Massachusetts, Boston
 
 
National, State/province and local governmental policies and programs
have both a direct and indirect influence on society due to the attitude
and thinking of the policy makers. Some policies and programs are
charity focused, based on social welfare ideology; others appear to
focus on systemic changes that promote effective solutions based on
social justice that advance access and effective participation. This
session will take an historical look at the development, implementation
and impact of social policy on the present day lives of disabled people.
Through the exploration of policy and change, the attendee will be
provided with the opportunity to assess current campus policies and
their effect on services provided and the role of the service
professional. Audience: All
 
 
 
All audioconferences run for 90 minutes from 2:00 to 3:30 pm Central
Time and are preceded and followed by opportunities to contact the
instructors via Email. Additionally, each hosting site will facilitate a
discussion at the conclusion of each audio conference. To reserve your
seat, please notify the contact person listed at your nearest host
institution at least 5 working days in advance and please indicate any
special accommodations that you may need. Note: Complimentary web-based
real-time captioning is provided for all audioconference sessions.  When
