NOTICE OF VACANCY
Director, Disability Resource Center
Student Affairs
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) a unit within the office of the
Vice President for the Division of Student Affairs, Equity and
Diversity, provides legally mandated accommodations required by federal
and state law for students with disabilities attending Washington State
University. The Disability Resource Center services, resources, and
programs provide students with disabilities equal opportunity and access
to university programs. The DRC director and staff, along with a
system-wide team of disability professionals and advocates, provide
consultation, training and advice to students, faculty and staff so that
reasonable accommodations are available to university students with
disabilities. The director and DRC staff work to empower students in
meeting their learning and academic goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Adult Education or
related field required, with five years experience working with people
with disabilities in an educational institution, which has included at
least two years of experience in program/departmental management.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience with all types of disabilities,
ADA and federal law requirements, in a college/university setting.
Candidate must have demonstrated experience and relevant academic
background in interpreting tests that diagnose learning disabilities and
determining reasonable accommodation for college/university students.
Candidate must possess strong written and oral communications skills.
Candidate must have five years managerial, supervisory, and budgetary
experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctoral degree in relevant field. Rehabilitation Counselor
Certification. Experience as an ADA Coordinator. Classroom, workshop,
and/or training experience.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Administrative Duties 40% The director provides administrative,
program leadership, and coordination for all aspects of the Disability
Resource Center. The director must establish an organizational vision
and provide strategic direction for the DRC. The director provides
leadership in creating a working environment within the DRC that is
inclusive, fosters development of staff, and facilitates cooperation and
teamwork. The director must provide effective management of human
financial and information resources. The director establishes
departmental policies and approves the purchase of equipment and other
departmental needs. The director oversees several unit budgets. The
director advocates for and facilitates full access for students with
disabilities through the provision of reasonable accommodations. The
director assists faculty and staff in understanding, implementing, and
providing students with reasonable accommodations. The director defines
DRC program goals and provides an annual report assessing and reviewing
program needs in accordance with ADA/504 legally mandated accommodations
required by federal and state law. II. Educational Coordination 20% The
director oversees and approves the strategic plan for the DRC programs
aimed at informing students, families, and university staff and faculty
of available resources. The director will design and present programs
aimed at educating the public about disability issues. The director
works in collaboration with university agencies and departments to
provide educational programs. The director serves as an institutional
resource making referrals to other university resources when necessary.
III. Community Building 20% The director serves as a liaison to local,
regional, state, and national organizations. The director must be
current on issues in postsecondary education and disability. The
director serves as a resource on disability issues for faculty, staff,
students, and visitors. The director engages campus and external
communities in the creation of inclusive environments and serves on
university committees as appointed. IV. Capacity Building 15% The
director works to strengthen the DRC program capacity by working in
partnership with the Division's development team to generate new streams
of funding through grants, extramural support, and private donations. V.
Other 5% Performs other related duties as required.
