JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director oversees the provision of Clayton State University's
accommodations for students with documented disabilities and manages the
Disability Resource Center office. The Director coordinates and provides
ongoing services and accommodations to students with documented
disabilities, develops and administers policies and procedures to ensure
compliance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and
monitors federal, state, and local statutes.
JOB DUTIES:
* Oversee the provision of the University's accommodations for
students with documented disabilities and manage the Disability Resource
Center; assist the ADA coordinator in compliance on University
issues/policies and maintenance of the ADA self-evaluation/transition
plans.
* Establish appropriate documentation criteria, review
disability documentation, and make recommendations for reasonable
accommodations; maintain current policies and procedures with regards to
services for students with disabilities and revise as needed in relation
to court decisions, Office of Civil Rights actions, etc.
* Manage and supervise all office staff and provide budgetary
oversight for the department and auxiliary aids budgets.
* Provide training to the campus community to disseminate
policies and procedures and increase awareness of the needs of students
with disabilities.
* Collect, analyze, and disseminate student and program
evaluation data.
* Conduct strategic planning efforts and plan/oversee staff and
professional development for DRC office staff
* Develop additional services to serve students with
disabilities in line with Division and University mission; provide the
campus and community with disability-related resources.
* Meet with students as needed for advisement, referrals, and
special circumstances or considerations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master's degree required; Doctoral degree preferred
* Seven years in postsecondary disability services or equivalent
education and work experience required. with at least two years of
progressively increasing responsibility within the area of disability
services.
* Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 and their impact on the
provision of services to college students with disabilities.
* Knowledge of current court and Office of Civil Rights (OCR)
cases.
* Knowledge of various disabilities and their educational
impact; assessment of postsecondary disability services.
* Demonstrated skill in establishing documentation review
policies and determining reasonable accommodations.
* Skilled in supervisory and budgetary practices.
* Skill in policy development in the area of provision of
accommodations and equal access for college students with disabilities.
* Skilled in conducting and implementing the strategic planning
process.
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and
in writing.
* Proven ability to work successfully in a diverse educational
setting.
* Ability to conduct presentations and workshops on disability
issues with faculty and staff.
* Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
Final candidates will undergo a criminal background investigation.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
